Collaged Illustrations: This Facial Expression

These images are part of a series of collages I created for the graduate design studio. The brief charged us with taking a collection of items and giving them structure, so I amassed a number of photographs of famous people making what I called “This Facial Expression”—a deflated, resigned, and perhaps slightly contrite expression similar to a child that has been caught doing something wrong.

These examples include former Congressman Anthony Weiner, former President Barack Obama, disgraced cyclist Lance Armstrong, and former Speaker of the House Paul Ryan.

Each subject had made the same face multiple times over multiple photographs for multiple reasons, but when assembled together, the expression (and the subject) is brought into a different light.
